Rocks, Tents, Hotels
Last month we introduced you to Dan and Chris, our new HHSI Outreach Navigators. In just one month, they have met 66 persons who meet HUD's high threshold definition of being homeless, "people living in a place not meant for human habitation." We know this narrow definition scratches the surface - - thousands of Quad Cities residents are couch surfing, hotel hopping, paying unsustainable rents, and whose family members are split up between relatives and friends ironically "to help make ends meet" The Outreach Team is connecting people to shelter, homes, and services. Because of the great need for more affordable housing and supportive services, in many cases, waiting lists is the best we can offer. But there are cases where we have been able to help.
